On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, CFPL will eliminate late fees for nearly all materials. We will also waive existing CFPL fines.
Charges for damaged or lost items will still apply, as well as fines from other libraries.
During the month of June, stop down to the circulation desk to get a free replacement card with identification.
The mission of the Chippewa Falls Public Library is to serve city and county residents of all ages by providing access to materials and services which meet their informational, educational and recreational needs.
Overdue fees act as a barrier to many and disproportionately impact those least able to pay them.
Equitable access to resources is key to the library’s mission. We want to invite back those who have been denied that access.
What fine free means to you:
No longer receive a daily late fine for most overdue Chippewa Falls Public Library items.
Exceptions include our electronic devices, equipment kits, and materials from the Lucky Day collection.
You are still responsible for returning your library items.
We will still collect replacement charges for lost or damaged items.
The amount of time before an unreturned item goes to billing will be shortened from 35 days to 21 days.
If you return items after you are billed, you will not have to pay the replacement bill on them.
A $15 Collection Agency fee still applies for items not returned after 30 days from the date on the replacement bill.
Is it good for the library?
Providing the best service to the entire community is central to our mission. We never want to turn anyone
away from the library because of an inability to pay fines.
Libraries provide a significant social benefit to all patrons, since it allows them to access a wide variety of materials and services without having to spend additional funds.
The best investment we can make is ensuring that the library and its resources are available to all in our community.
