Let’s Talk About Pain Medicines is a free 60-minute educational program developed
by Wisconsin Health Literacy to help participants get a better understanding of how
to more safely and effectively use prescription pain (opioid) medicine. Participants
will learn about the history of opioids and important information about the opioid
crisis we are facing.

Program topics include:

  • Differences between prescription opioids and other pain medicines
  • History of the opioid epidemic
  • How naloxone can help stop an overdose
  • Understanding label directions (when and how long to take the medicine)
  • Importance of understanding warning labels
  • When to call the pharmacist or doctor
  • Safe storage of opioid medicine to help prevent others from finding and using them
  • What to do with unused opioid medicine
